ZenMarket fees for Mercari, Yahoo, and shops

ZenMarket’s per-item fees, the 3.5% deposit, and what they collect for Australia and Europe.

ZenMarket buys from Japanese shops, Mercari, and Yahoo Auctions (they call the auctions JDirectItems). You fund a yen balance, they purchase, and later they bill shipping from Osaka.

The service fee

From the fee summary, checked 13 October 2026:

Identical copies of one item can share a fee. Different sizes or colors are separate items. A single card is one item. Initial consolidation is listed as free. Storage is free for 60 days, then ¥50 per item per day, and they dispose of goods after 90 days. Those storage numbers matter if you are waiting on a second card.

Photo service is ¥500 per item if you want them to shoot a used card before it ships. It is off in the calculator. Add ¥500 yourself if you plan to use it.

The deposit fee

You pay ZenMarket by loading yen. The payments page says the deposit fee on card or PayPal is 3.5% of the total transaction. Their example: adding 3.5% to ¥1,000 produces a charge whose fee does not leave ¥1,000 in the account. The correct cover is ¥1,000 / 0.965.

A blog post on adding funds says Wise is under 1% and that most other methods are 3.5%. The calculator’s Wise line is 1% and marked Estimate. Replace it with the rate on the deposit screen.

PayPal converts your currency to yen at PayPal’s rate. The site’s dollar figure is only the ECB reference rate.

Tax they may collect

ZenMarket says it collects 10% Australian GST when the declared value is AUD 1,000 or under. The calculator turns that on for Australia and includes it in the deposit fee. It does not convert AUD, so turn the line off if the parcel is over the threshold.

For Europe they describe optional advance VAT at or under €150, and local customs above that. The EU row uses 20% as a stand-in because Germany, France, and Italy do not share one rate. It is marked Estimate.

International shipping is still a quote after they pack. Use the calculator, pick ZenMarket, and paste the quote when it arrives. The share link is the one to keep.
